Halifax named one of top five best Canadian cities for young, talented workers

Halifax, NS - In a ranking of 27 Canadian cities, Halifax has been named the top place in Atlantic Canada and fifth in the country for young talent to live and work, according to the Next Cities report released on Tuesday by Next Generation Consulting (NGC).

“FUSION Halifax is absolutely delighted to see this city increasingly being recognized as a destination of choice for young talent to live, work, play and stay,” said Alyson Queen, Chair of FUSION Halifax. “Our work as a community on attraction, retention and repatriation of the next generation is far from complete, but we can seize this momentum to learn what other top cities are doing and expand our own activities.”

The report indicates that NGC has studied the residential and relocation patterns of 20-40 year olds since 1998, and has developed a one-of-a-kind indexing system that evaluates a city based on the assets that are important to “next gen” workers. According to NGC, the seven indexes of a "Next City" are: Earning, Learning, Vitality, Around Town, After Hours, Cost of Lifestyle, and Social Capital. The final rankings are based on a city's total score in all seven indexes.
