GIVE YOUR CAR A BREAK

On Monday, September 22, 2008, FUSION Halifax encourages you to hang up your car keys and head to work using alternative transportation.

Monday marks the 8th year that cities around the world will encourage their citizens to make it a CAR FREE DAY on September 22. In celebration of Haligonians’ commitment to leaving their cars at home, members of FUSION Halifax’s Sustainability Action team will be conducting random acts of sustainability around the city. The team, noted by the vibrant red shirts, will reward individuals that have sought alternative means to move them from point A to B.

CAR FREE DAY requires public support to be a success, and can be a first step for people in making a commitment to change their transportation habits.

When: Monday, September 22, 2008
Where: FUSION Halifax’s Sustainability Action Committee will be located at the Ferry Terminal in Halifax from 7:00 am to 9:00 am

Since October 2007, FUSION Halifax has been working to ignite and inspire the 20-40 year old residents of HRM to make their city a better place to live, work and play. The Sustainability Action Committee mission is to focus on educating on sustainable practices, encouraging sustainable transportation, and participating in the HRM community on sustainable initiatives. The team has met with various groups in the community including: the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission, as well as HRM’s Active Transportation Plan and Transportation Planning groups. FUSION Sustainability Action Committee can also be seen around the community picking up litter in their monthly street clean events.
