FUSION Halifax launches 2011/2012 Mentorship Program

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, May 3, 2011 – FUSION Halifax is excited to launch its 2011/2012 Mentorship Program aimed at providing young professionals with the opportunity to grow their professional networks and their careers in Halifax!

Led by FUSION Halifax’s People Factor Action Team, the program is designed to engage the broader community in Halifax by matching young professionals with established leaders of the city for an eight-month partnership. Throughout their time together, each pair will meet to discuss a range of topics such as industry trends, issues, and insights to help participants push their careers to the next level.

“FUSION Halifax is committed to providing growth and development opportunities for our members,” said Jennifer Berry, FUSION Halifax Chair. “This program provides young people with the opportunity for personal and professional development that will allow them to grow their careers right here at home.”

Entering into its second year, the Program is hoping to expand on its success. Last year 65 young professionals submitted applications resulting in 25 successful matches.

The participants used face-to-face meetings, phone, and even Skype to meet with their mentors and consult on various topics. Having the opportunity to set their own agenda and ask the questions that would be most beneficial to them, participants were provided with the opportunity to establish a relationship that would prove to be invaluable to their own unique interests.

“The FUSION Halifax Mentorship Program was a fantastic experience that allowed me to explore my strengths and weaknesses with a true Halifax leader,” said Kelvin MacPherson, a 2010/2011 Mentorship Program Mentee. “By the end of the program I came away with a new professional relationship and quantifiable insights that I can draw from in my career and personal life.”
