| * Occupation: Human Resource Consultant * Employer: Halifax Regional Municipality * Birthplace/Home Town: Cambridge, ON / Dartmouth, NS * Where else have you lived? Yellowknife, NT * Describe yourself in three words: Big Picture Thinker |
* Why FUSION Halifax? What do you hope to accomplish in your role this year?
My answer is simple and has remained at the heart of why I've chosen to
volunteer year after year: I am passionate about this small but mighty city
reaching its full potential and truly becoming the destination of choice for
our demographic. As young people, it is critical that we participate in the
building of our future and FUSION Halifax continues to be the best vehicle for
which to facilitate our engagement. HRM is my home, Dartmouth is where I choose
to live and I feel fortunate to be able to build my life here.
It is an honour to by chosen as Chair and to follow in the footsteps of
people I admire and respect: Peter Moorhouse, Alyson Queen, Cheryl Stewart and
Jennifer Berry. It is important to me that I uphold the reputation that they
have built, and I commit, as they had, to leaving the organization better than
when I first became involved. At the heart of everything I do this year will be
the goal to connect, engage and inspire our members to help us make Halifax the
most vibrant city in Canada.
* Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to know:
I am awesome at recalling song lyrics on demand, especially 90’s hip hop.
* What do you love about the East Coast? What’s the best thing about living
in Halifax?
First and foremost, I love our surroundings. I know that’s typical, but
where else can you live downtown and be at a beach or in the middle of the
wilderness within 20 minutes! I love being able to walk to work, the nightlife,
the ever growing cultural diversity and the many boutiques and hidden gems. I
love that networking is truly alive in Halifax and that the more you do, the
more opportunities you will discover. Most importantly, I am so inspired by
FUSION Halifax and its members who show me that I’m not alone in this quest for
Halifax greatness.
* If the sky was the limit, what would you change about Halifax?
I would get rid of the fog in favour of more sunshine.
I would decrease complaining and increase civic awareness and engagement.
I would uncover more employment opportunities for the young and emerging
workforce.
I would finally get us an IKEA!
* What is your favorite restaurant/pub/place to meet?
Chives / Celtic Corner / Two If By Sea
* What would you tell a new young person moving to Halifax?
"Decide what you want. Believe you can have it, believe you deserve it and
believe it’s possible for you."
* If someone were to ask you, “Who should I know in Halifax?” Who would you
recommend they meet?
Any of our current or past FUSION Board
Directors and action team members. These people are incredibly talented, well
connected and unwavering in their passion for Halifax.
