| * Occupation: Executive Search Consultant * Employer: Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette * Birthplace/Home Town: Amherst, Nova Scotia * Where else have you lived? Wolfville, NS and Halifax, NS * Describe yourself in three words: Calm, productive, and reliable |
* Why FUSION Halifax? What do you hope to accomplish in your role this year?
FUSION Halifax has always been a passion of mine; I believe in its mandate and
I enjoy meeting new members. PFAT accomplished a lot last year. As I look
forward to this year, and building on that success, I would like to focus on
making the Mentorship Program and the Pay it Forward Program better this year
so participants get more value out of the program. Also, I would like to build
more partnerships with local businesses to offer additional professional and/or
career development sessions for our members.
* Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to know:
I’m a
natural red head in disguise. Shocking, I know!
* What do you love about the East Coast? What’s the best thing about living in Halifax? Even though Halifax is a city, it’s small enough that you feel connected to the pulse and can play a real part in the community.
* If the sky was the limit, what would you change about Halifax? Well, if the sky was the limit, I would have to say Mother Nature - a little less rain and fog would be nice!
But, in all honesty, I’d like to help Halifax employers attract, engage, and keep young professionals right here at home. I don’t like hearing about family or friends leaving the Maritimes for career opportunities elsewhere. There are opportunities here, so we need to find a better way to connect employers with future leaders and give them the challenge and opportunity of advancing their career in Halifax. I think we’ll get there, especially now that Ships Start Here!
* What is your favorite restaurant/pub/place to meet? I have a few! I love Jane’s on the Common if I’m meeting friends for dinner or Durty Nelly’s if I’m grabbing a beer with friends after work.
* What would you tell a new young person moving to Halifax? Get involved! Meet as many new people as you can through volunteering or networking. It’s a small community so the more connections you have the better.
* If someone were to ask you, “Who should I know in Halifax?” Who would you recommend they meet? That’s a tough question. It depends on what you hope to accomplish by making the connection. We have an impressive list of Halifax leaders on our Advisory Committee and participating in our Mentorship Program. Depending on your interests, those individuals are committed to the community and helping young people succeed in Halifax, and I bet they would be able to help, or at least point you in the right direction of someone who can.
