What is the burning issue, your passion? What keeps you up at night? Opportunity. The opportunity for people to tell their story, the opportunity to be heard, and the opportunity to participate. While on one level these
opportunities are all separate, they are also connected. People should be able to stand up and say
this is where I come from, this is what I believe and these are the skills I have. The response should be curious and open:
tell me more!
Why do you live in Halifax now?
I wanted my husband to have a warm welcome to Canada, and a strong
family and friend network. Home seemed like the obvious choice. I wanted
his first impression of Canada to be of Halifax (he loves it by the
way).
What do you love about living in Halifax/being an East Coaster?
I love the people. The friendly smiles and the warm hellos make any walk, no matter how cold or windy, an enjoyable one.
What is your most memorable Halifax experience?
White Juan - nothing brings community together like natural disaster.
Why is it great to be young in Halifax?
There are so many opportunities for great conversation - great places to share meals, drinks, coffee, etc.
What would you change about Halifax?
Mindset - we need to blend old ideas and habits with new ones.
What is your favorite restaurant/pub?
Rogues Roost / Seahorse.
What is your favorite meeting spot?
Waterfront.
What would you tell a new young person moving to Halifax?
Get out there - there is so much going on in Halifax.
If someone were to ask you, who should I ‘know’ in Halifax. Who would you recommend they meet?
If someone asked me that question regarding immigration issues, I would tell them they need to know about the organizations in Halifax that support immigration and see how they can get involved like the YMCA, ISIS, or the Halifax Refugee Clinic.
