The construction of the first office building in the downtown core in more than 20 years is now under way at the corner of Hollis and Duke Streets. Armour Group is carefully deconstructing the interior of the structure in order to retain the facades and exterior walls of the building. The plans call for a six-story glass tower that will top the original 3-story structure for a total of nine stories, plus a basement parking garage. The glass addition will be stepped back from the roof line of the existing facades.

The development is set to be the first LEED certified building built in Halifax with plans to use harbour water for heating and cooling purposes. Energy and water usage are are projected to be 40% less than conventional buildings of its size.
Upon completion, the building will add 85,000 square feet of Class A office space to the downtown core. With downtown vacancy rates hovering around the 4% mark Waterside looks to be in a good position to attract some marquee tenants, adding some much needed vibrancy to the area.
