Fenwick Tower Redevelopment
Templeton Properties has embarked on an ambitious redevelopment of one of Halifax's most notorious buildings and the proposals look to radically change the existing site.  Templeton has gone to extraordinary lengths to engage the public in the design process and the result is a proposal that addresses the needs of neighborhood residents with a focus on creating a people friendly space.

Fenwick Tower

Development Summary

The project includes a 26 story addition to the existing structure by adding an additional 36 feet per story to the south side of the building.  This creates a height transition between the original 33 story tower and the rest of the development.  There is also an opportunity to add a green roof to the space along with significant architectural interest.  The original tower will also be re-clad to improve energy efficiency and visual appeal.

Additional structures to be added to the site are a 8 story residential or office tower on the west side of the property and a 10 story residential tower to be built on an existing parking lot on South St.  Finally, two-story commercial and residential townhouses will be built along Fenwick Street to ensure there is a human scale to street scape.  Templeton is promising to allocate 10% of the residential units to affordable housing.

Other interesting aspects of the project include a pedestrian friendly lane lined with retail shops that will connect Fenwick and South Streets. Access to the 8 story building will be from this lane, drawing in pedestrian traffic.  There are also plans for public green space, art installations, and parking spaces for local residents.

Templeton has created a Facebook page where you can find more information about the project including pictures, a video, and regular updates about the project.
