There’s no question that a city is more than its buildings, parks, and streetscapes – Paris would still be Paris without the Eiffel Tower. But the world’s best cities know that careful planning and smart growth is necessary to fuel culture, opportunity, and competitive edge. In order to make Halifax one of the best places to live, work and play in Canada or even North America, we need the young generation in this city to voice its hopes and dreams, so that we see the smart growth that we require for future generations.
Therefore the mandate of the Urban Development Action Team is to bring together individuals with a passion for the progression of Halifax to encourage civic engagement of young people around the decisions that truly shape our city. Our team members are of diverse backgrounds, as we deliberately seek people who are broader than just urban development experts.
Our team achieves its mandate in two distinct capacities. One, we educate Urban Development team members of current activities surrounding developments in Halifax, such as planned new buildings, public hearings or community meetings that are taking place. Further, we educate our team members on how to best get involved with these activities and who to contact. Secondly, we engage the development community (from councillors, developers, architects, construction companies to individual business and community groups) with our ideas through open dialog and exchange. From lunch & learns, individual meetings to our annual open house, VivaCity, with the development community, we want to maximize dialog and exchange to the benefit of our city.
If you would like to find out more about our team, write us an e-mail at fusionhalifax.ca or join us for our monthly meetings (last Thursday of every month at different locations - contact us for details).
