Starfish Properties is slated to redevelop the old Sam the Record Man and Ginger's Tavern buildings into an interesting mix of retail and office space. The new building, called Barrington Espace, is looking to unify the existing office spaces above the retail level of the three buildings and retain the valuable retail space on street level.
Design plans call for a two-story addition on top of the existing structure that will be comprised mostly of glass. This will be set back from the original buildings where the facade will be maintained resulting in an interesting set of buildings that boast some historical charm and urban flair. This development marks an interesting milestone for Halifax as it is the first development to pass the design review process instituted under the HRM by Design guidelines. The group poured over the design details, made some minor recommendations for improvement, and approved the project. Work could begin shortly and we're looking forward to it.
